Much of the economy’s down. Who’s making money? The student uniform industry.
Michael Arking, VP of French Toast’s school uniform division, a top brand of school uniforms, says the industry could be up 5 percent this year.
Mr. MICHAEL ARKING (Vice President, French Toast School Uniform): The early indicators seem to be that sales are up. I think a lot of that has to do with--in the value and the quality. Let’s say $120, parents can buy a whole wardrobe, which is like less than a pair of designer jeans, actually.
CABOT: The school uniform industry brings in about $1 billion every year.
