Schoolwear Brand Expands Adaptive Clothing Offerings This Back-to-School Season

NEW YORK, July 13, 2023 - French Toast Schoolwear, the leading school uniform brand, has announced that their kids adaptive seated wear designs will launch this back-to-school season. The new designs aim to promote inclusivity and independence for students who spend a majority of their time using a wheelchair. Available in youth sizes 4-20, the designs include an adaptive seated ponte knit pant, adaptive seated twill pant and an adaptive seated polo. Adaptive features include seated rises, convenient thigh pockets and inner leg plackets which provide fit and comfort features intentionally designed for students who use wheelchairs.

“We are an inclusive brand and believe in schoolwear for all,” says Ashley Tashjian, Senior Director of Design for French Toast. “Our adaptive seated wear designs are made to empower students who use wheelchairs and support them in being independent, comfortable, and confident every day.”

Made for all kids to shine, French Toast Schoolwear continues to develop kids adaptive clothing designed in partnership with feedback from the disability community, including kids, parents, and caregivers. The collection is gaining traction among educators, parents, and disability rights advocates who have long been calling for more inclusive and accessible fashion.

To ensure product designs continue to meet the need, eight styles from the original collection, launched in 2022, have been updated based on insights from focus groups, including introducing a functional top-button on polo designs, easier to close hook + loop fasteners, and reinforced Lift Loops™ with a double bartack.

French Toast’s new adaptive seated wear designs will be available this back-to-school season on FrenchToast.com. The collection will continue to retail at affordable prices to ensure that all families can access comfortable and stylish adaptive clothing.

Aligned with the brand’s commitment to the disability community, French Toast has pledged to donate $5,000 to The Recess Project Inc., a non-profit organization with the goal to create a more inclusive recess for students with disabilities by providing accessible playground equipment to schools. Recess is a critical aspect of education—it improves physical health, memory and attention, reduces disruptive behavior and improves social development, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, most school playgrounds in the U.S. are not accessible for many students with disabilities, leaving them isolated from their peers during recess. With this donation, French Toast aims to help all kids shine by supporting an organization that will give all students the chance to engage, socialize, and learn together.

The upcoming launch of the collection is a significant step forward in promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the fashion industry and ensuring that students with disabilities and special needs have equal opportunities to learn and thrive in school. French Toast is committed to creating innovative designs that support all students and their diverse needs.
